New Work at ArtSource

Today I delivered eleven new pieces to Artsource at North Hills in Raleigh, NC. The pieces range from the smallest being 18" x 24" to the largest at 36" x 60". Many of the abstract acrylic canvases are a continuation of my "Raleigh" series of work that is titled after the city the work was completed , using the same method as that of the famous abstractions Richard Diebenkorn of the 1950 and 60's. It's funny to note that my birthday is sandwiched between two great Abstract Expressionist. Richard Diebenkorn was born on April 22nd while Willem de Kooning born on April 24th, so with my birthday on the 23rd of April, I was born on the "cusp of Diebenkorn and de Kooning".
Hmmm, Diebenkorn, DiGiulio and de Kooning. I like the way that sounds.

United for Robert Fundraiser at Mission Valley Cinema

Robert King needs our help for his cancer treatmernt. For someone who has been so helpful to so many, it's time to give back to help Robert in his fight against cancer. As a cancer survivor myself, friends can sometime be the best medicine in times such as this. You can give back by joining us this Thursday June 2nd at the Mission Valley Cinema at 7pm to watch the screening of Robert King's directorial documentary "3 The Hard Way". I recently have created several new pieces for ArtSource of Raleigh, NC. I realzed that the gallery had either sold all my work except for one painting that was out on approval . With their newly expanded gallery at North Hills, I decide it was time to get some new fresh work to them. Also this week Bob Burridge , a fantastic contemporary artist from California has been visiting with us here in Raleigh while conducting a week long workshop at Jerry's Artarama of Raleigh . We discussed a number of topics while he visited our home studio, DiGiulio Studios. He started me thinking of incorporating the use of a theme to help in expanding my ideas of where I will be taking my artwork in the future. I have a refreshed amount of energy to continue with a theme based path of future development. I'm excited!

I want to make all my readers aware of a awesome project that fellow artist Jacob Joubert is presently working on. Jake, a navy officer stationed here in Raleigh, NC working at NCSU's ROTC program, is developing a series of paintings dealing with the loss of lives of American service members. Each painting in the series represents each war which Americans, throughout history have participated in. The paintings are comprised of a stick mark to represent each American service member that have lost their life in that particular war. Check out Jake's site that deals with this issue as we approach our countries independance this coming July 4th. Take a moment during your 4th to celebrate the lives of those whom have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country. God Bless America!

New DVD releases: The Fifth Element

Well I am excited about the release of my fifth Art Instructional DVD from "The Abstracted Expressionist Mind " series entitled reasonably enough, "The Fifth Element" , and I am very pleased with the clean, professional result the folks at Burning Oak Studios achieved with the production of this latest release. It's sort of a coalmination of all the DVD's I have done up to this point and it brings the instruction all together into one cohesive finite statement of the entire intuitive process that goes on inside one's mind while they are in their creative mode.

New Exhibit on February 12th

I have just finished up on a new group of pieces to be on exhibit at Nicoles Studio this coming second Friday in February. The show is a two person comtemporary abstract show featuring new work by Lisa Stroud and myself. I thought I would throw a teaser out there for you to check out. I have assembled seven to eight pieces of my brand new unshown work that continues on my established"Raleigh Series" and also my "Crossing Series". I don't know where the crossing series came from. It was just something I started for the Capitol Bank show last January in downtown Raleigh and it has just florished from that. The unsusal thing about this themed series is I had no preconcieved notion. It just kinda' evolved out of work I was doing over the last year. I hope you'll be able to come out to see the show on the 12th. Peace

New Workshop at Jerry's Artarama of Raleigh - Feb. 7th

So I have another opportunity to teach a great one day workshop at Jerry's Artarama coming up on February 7th. At first, I thought I didn't do a great job of scheduling seeing that the 7th was Super Bowl Sunday. Then I got to thinking, "Hey, do you want to sit around the house eating some chips and guacamole dip, watching hour after hour of talking head sportscasters pontificating as to who will win the big game, or you could have a great day of using the other side of your brain creating wonderful abstract artwork in acrylics. Well seeing how I would want to always be known as a well rounded individual, (my wife looks at my wasteline and says, "I already am well rounded"), here is an opportunity to satisfy the creative part of my being, then go home and watch the "Big Game" to satisfy the other side of the brain!
Now that I have a brand new super fast computer to begin my blog work in 2010, I am excited about this years events for DiGiulio Studios. From my new workshops schedule for Jerry's and work at Nicole's Studio, Art Source and Spectrum Art and Jewelry in Wilmington. to upcoming new DVD filming in March, the first half of 2010 is filling up fast. Back at DiGiulio Studios we anticipate the completion of the second floor and the beginning of private instruction at the home based facility. We are looking forward to a return to the south of France to visit our good friends at Bruno Charvin Art in Cannes. Excitement abounds and I am hoping if you want to get away from the Super Bowl hype, why don't you sign up and come down to Jerry's this February 7th for a great one day paint fest with yours truely!

Computer Crash

Well just when you think everything is going well for yourself the inevitable happens. The dreaded blue screen appeared on my computer and boom, another one bites the dust. So I had fried hard drive for dinner last night. Between computer trama at work with my printer and the big crash at home, I'm having to spend my time trying to dig out my website and rebuild it before no one is the wiser.(did I just let the cat out of the bag?) Well anyway time for a facelift on the old website. I will be reworking the Digiulio Studios site in order to be able to update it in the future. Well maybe I will try to make the best out of this mess and freshen up the old site. (Yeah, that's how I planned it.) My biggest concern is that the new computer I have purchased has MS Vista on it. however Best Buy is offering a free Windows 7 upgrade once it rolls out in October, so even Bill Gates knows that the Vista operating system has much to be desired.

Weekend Workshop

Two days, ten students, tons of fun. I just completed the 2 day workshop,"Developing Acrylic Abstracts" at Jerry's Artarama in Raleigh, NC and WOW what a time. Students from around the region convergered for an exciting 2 day painting free for all where they were able to come away with a vast variety of finished work suitable for gallery exhibition. I felt this was one of my more talented classes as we had along with some newcomers , quit a few seasoned artist. Sam Gray from http://www.samgrayportraits.com/ was in attendence as well as accomplished artist Nancy Marple http://www.nancymarple.com/ and Dorothy Grebos http://dgrebosart.com/ . Some really great pieces were coming out of some of the newer students with everyone having a terrific time. I hope to see these students again at my upcoming workshops at Art of the Carolinas 2009 in November at the North Raleigh Hilton , Raleigh NC. Look forward to seeing you all then.

New Commisions

Work has begun in our new studio space on two 36"x60" paintings for a client that has previously purchased two other works by mine through my gallery representative, ArtSource.

There are also some of the new pieces coming out of DiGiulio Studios, and I am very exited and full of creative energy to be able to work in a larger area where space is no longer an issue. I have also been working on painting studies on paper tho work through my new ideas before bring them to canvas. I find that the studies are also nice pieces themselves. I am limiting my palette to black, white and a third color and just a bling of a fourth accent color. These studies are interesting in that they are a combination of several media. Acrylic, graphite, tempera, liquid pencil and oil pastel are some of the media that are being combined in this series of paintings. I will plan to apply these more successful studies to panel in order to make sutiable for framing and display.

The Move

Well, I've finally made the move into the new studio and started working on my first painting within the new confines, (popped the studio's cherry). There are still a few minor electrical details to finalize before the actual full electrical capacity of the studio are conplete (i.e. the baseboard heat panels.) Sharon will begin her exedus from her second floor bedroom space in the house to her half of the new confines this weekend as I have in turn, manage to take the warzone, (my old studio space within the original house) and transform it into a clean, pleasurable family room with bar, frig, and music studio. There is still a ton of work to do but we are well on our way with the firast phase of returning our house back into a home and developing our full service studio on the property.

Construction on DiGiulio Studios

The work on the new studio is in it's final faze as I prepare to move my supplies and such into the new building. Located behind our home on our existing 2 acre lot, the 2 story facility will eventually house both Sharon and my studio as well as a workshop facility and hopefully an visiting artist residence on the second floor.
